I know; I know. Beta is superior to the VHS format. But I'm a media guy and like most media guys I had to settle for VHS -- which lasted only 6 years longer than Beta anyway until DVDs stole their thunder. So much for "format wars." By the time I did by my forst VHS machine, I had my collecting mania more under control and didn't buy as much of this stuff. I did however have a donation of a huge pile of bulk VHS tape from a friend all of which will eventually get posted here.

Yeah, I don't know about you, but I tried to sell stuff on eBay for "big money" and only succeeded in melting my credit cards.

Those commercials on the radio, that claim you can make "tens or hundreds of thousands." Uh, no. As usual they lie. I have no doubt an extremely small number of people made out like bandits on the old eBay site, but all of the rest of us are still stuck in the corner of the sandbox trying to just make it day-to-day.

So here I am going it solo. My own privately operated "eeebay-like" sale site. Enjoy.

Oh yeah, if this stuff doesn't sell after a time, I'm boxing it all up and heading for Amoeba Records. So first-come first-served.

Science fiction gets yet another quirky treatment with the addition of grumbling scientist Claude Rains in "Battle of the Worlds." It seems that Mars station is getting a new planet on their radar (radar?) but investigating spaceships get slaughtered by flying saucers. Rains and his team of dysfunctional scientists come to the rescue. Rains is hilarious as an outspoken scientist who refuses to take any crap from anyone. DRACULA BLOWS HIS COOL European soft core comedy The title pretty much explains it. The original 1979 German title was "Graf Dracula beißt jetzt in Oberbayern". But why complicate things? An ancestor of Drac, in an attempt to save his legacy, Castle Skrew (pun intended), turns the old haunt into a disco and photography studio. All the activity disturbs his sleeping vampire great-great who decides to make a meal or two of all the beautiful women hanging out in the old home. THE STRANGER ORSON WELLES CLASSIC This film has such an amazing history -- much of it the making of Orson Welles -- whose career was hanging by a shoestring when Producer Sam Spiegel (note: he used the acronym S. P. Eagle in the credits!) offered him the director's chair. While Welles crashed and burned career-wise (but not because of this film), THE STRANGER remains a fine example of Welles' genius -- both in front of and behind the cameras. Under-budgeted Noir film, "THE STRANGER" is a post-war horror story of an evil nazi (Welles) who escapes to small town America under a new identity -- and who eventually marries the daughter (Loretta Young) of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice! WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH VICTORIA VETRI "One Million Years BC" made a lot of box office -- possibly because of Raquel Welsh's fur bikini -- so the producers turned around and made a sequel, but Raquel wasn't available for the return engagement, so they tapped Playboy Playmate Victoria Vetri who fills out the fur bikini nicely. This movie is great fun, mostly because of the stop motion dinosaurs, this time modeled and filmed by Harryhausen's protege, Jim Danforth. WHEN THE LEGENDS DIE Richard Widmark Frederic Forrest Based on the Hal Borland book, "When the Legends Die" is the bittersweet story of Tom Black Bull (Forrest). Tom, being raised in the old ways, gets yanked into the modern world and thrown into the rigid Indian School on the reservation. Not a model student, he becomes the legal ward of Red Dillon (Widmark) an aging rodeo cowboy who discovers his skill with breaking horses and starts him on a new  career as a rodeo contestant. Widmark and Forrest are outstanding in this nearly forgotten film released in the early 1970s. Recommended. BUY the book and the video for $8.00  plus shipping and handling Ever since the late Frank Zappa recorded the classic "Valley Girl" song, movie makers seemed to flock to the idea. Producer--Filmmaker Don Glut, working the bottom of the film budget universe, managed to write, direct and release this imaginative epic. "Dinosaur Valley Girls" is the story of this modern age guy who drops into a time warp and meets up with stone age barbie dolls and a couple of stop motion Paleozoic nasties. Obviously DVG is played mostly tongue-in-cheek -- and some of those cheeks are very nice indeed (sorry, couldn't resist). Don Glut took DVG a step further by also writing a book about the experience. For you "Z" budget filmmakers out there, it can be valuable information on how to make a movie. Besides the usual behind the scenes pictures, "Dinosaur Valley Girls -- the Book" includes the script; how it was shot; what got cut out or dropped from the shooting schedule. Whatever else you may think about the end result, it is fascinating to watch and then read how and/or why certain decisions were made. I subscribe to the two-medium-pizzas-and-a-six-pack method of viewing "B" movies. But this special adds the  educational benefit of reading about it too.
