BETA TAPE LIBRARY - PRE-RECORDED

The BETA format is (well.... was) the best video tape format ever to be marketed.
Sony ceased manufacturing consumer BETA recorder-players for the American market in 1993

My ancient SLHF-900 finally crapped out in early 2000 -- which is really messed up because I liked my betamax!.

Reluctantly, I've decided to say bon voyage to my beta collection.

So, if you are a beta-phile and are looking for pre-recorded video tapes in this format -- READ ON!

DISCOUNTED PRICE FOR 2008!

$1.00 per tape!

I will sell all these betamax videos individually -- in groups of two or more -- or the entire collection! That's over 200 videos!

Buyer will assume shipping and handling costs.

Depending on the number of tapes you order, and the combined weight, shipping is actually cheaper if you buy in bulk.

E-MAIL ME to make arrangements.

Update: January 2008
Due to the server outage, I decided to "thin the herd" by eliminating those Beta Videos already sold through the end of 2007

Running Count of the Remaining Beta Collection of Purchased Beta Format Video Tapes:

140 Movies and Made for TV features
44 Music Videos
20 Cartoons, Special Interest
47 Kung Fu Films

As of:  Friday, May 9th, 2008: the total BetaMax count sits at 251 tapes.

Wanna buy the whole batch? $460 covers everything including shipping (In roughly 8 boxes). That is domestic only. International shipping will cost more. Click "e-mail me" (above) if you want to buy the remaining beta library as is.

BLANK BETA TAPES

Many of you have been asking about the Blank Beta Tapes. That list is finally up. There are 374 tapes on that list. Most contain recorded TV shows and movies. Due to legal issues, I can only sell as blank tapes so that is why the "program material" section is blank.

Click here to see any of these blank betamax tapes interest you.

Notice: some blank Betas haven't been listed yet due to a temporary malfunction in my Betamax machine. I am attempting to transfer some material from Beta to DVD for personal keeping and that ongoing process is suspended until further notice. I'll update the list as time goes by.

MOVIE TITLES are in alphabetical order and include reviews and references and a small picture of the actual box. I recommend to viewers and potential buyers to also reference the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com) for alternate reviews of these features.

Several of these videos no longer reside in their original boxes. Where noted they are protected by sturdy translucent white or solid brown clamshell cases.

FEATURE FILMS
MADE-FOR-VIDEO FEATURE RELEASES

after hours box

AFTER HOURS
1985
Griffin Dunne
Rosanna Arquette
One of those "New York Stories"
but better than usual.
Dunne is the
fish-out-of-water character on the
wrong side of town.

Alligator box

ALLIGATOR
1980
Robert Forster
Robin Riker
Henry Silva
Better than average combo horror sci-fi movie as a cop on the edge (Forster) teams up with a pretty herpetologist (Riker) to hunt down a rogue mutant alligator that's eating people. Henry Silva plays a Great White Hunter in Harlem. Lots of humor.
Android box

ANDROID
1982
Klaus Kinski
Don Oppor

On occasion even a very low budget sci-fi movie can entertain. Kinski plays a scientist whose eccentric lifestyle has him creating androids. Unfortunately for him, a group of criminals decides to visit his space station.

armed box

ARMED AND DANGEROUS
1986
John Candy
Eugene Levy
(from imdb) "A fired cop and useless lawyer sign up as security guards and find they've joined a corrupt union." Candy and his SCTV friend Levy do the honors.

SALE PENDING
arthur box

ARTHUR
1981
Dudley Moore
Liza Minelli
John Geilgud

Dudley Moore may be the star but butler John Geilgud steals every scene. Think of it as a tweaked variation on Cinderella.

back to school box

BACK TO SCHOOL
1986
Rodney Dangerfield
Sally Kellerman

Rodney Dangerfield continues his string of hits with this movie about a clothing merchant who returns to college to keep an eye on his son. He ends up disrupting the college and falling for a poetry teacher (Kellerman).

BASIC TRAINING BOX

BASIC TRAINING
 1986
Ann Dusenberry
Rhonda Shear
Angela Ames

Military comedy (from imdb) Melinda (Dusenberry) comes to Washington DC to visit her friend Debbie (Rhonda "Up all Night" Shear). Working for the Pentagon, Melinda discovers that her boss seems to be more interested in getting into her pants than finding lost data on the Russians. Melinda finds subtle ways of getting her policies implemented by manipulating the top brass."
ultravixens box

BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRAVIXENS
1979
dir.  RUSS MAYER

One of Russ Mayer's classics and -- for fans of this man's films -- a rare treat on beta.

Between the Lines box

BETWEEN THE LINES
1977
John Heard
Lindsey Crouse

An underground newspaper in Boston is about to be taken over by a big time publisher.

Blazing Saddles box

BLAZING SADDLES
1974
Cleavon Little
Gene Wilder
Mel Brooks

Mel Brooks struck gold with this comedy farce on the western genre. The campfire scene still makes me laugh.

SALE PENDING

Born American box

BORN AMERICAN
1986
Mike Norris
Steven Durham

One of Chuck Norris' sons stars but chain-smoking newcomer Steven Durham's character is riviting in this tale of three friends who "accidently" invade Russia illegally and end up in some kind of internment camp for lunatics.

Breaking all the rules box

BREAKING ALL THE RULES
1985
(US-Canada)
Carolyn Dunn
(from the IMDB) "The story of two guys and two girls who meet and fall in love in an amusement park on the last day of summer -- all the while outwitting 3 moronic would-be jewel thieves."

Buckaroo Banzai box

BUCKAROO BANZAI
1984
Peter Weller
Ellen Barkin
John Lithgow

Under-rated and very peculiar movie about a brilliant leader of a team of engineers and scientists who gets caught in a warring struggle between aliens. John Lithgow ("3rd Rock from the Sun") steals the film with his manic portrayal of a human possessed of an alien entity. Peter Weller playes the understated Buckaroo Banzai, a comic hero come to life. Weird yet fun.
Cannonball box

CANNONBALL
1976
David Carradine
Veronica Hamel

A low budget version of "The Cannonball Run"-- America's most notorious clandestine road race --  with Carradine in the driver's seat.
Choose Me box

CHOOSE ME
1984
Keith Carradine
Genevieve Bujold

(from IMDB) "Several lost-soul night-owls, including a nightclub owner, a talkback radio relationships counseller, and an itinerant stranger have encounters that expose their contradictions and anxieties about love and acceptance."

Cisco Kid box

CISCO KID: SOUTH OF THE RIO GRANDE
1945
Duncan Renaldo

In 1945, Duncan Renaldo stepped into the shoes of the Cisco Kid. Cisco's sidekick is Martin Garralaga. This was one of 3 western potboilers made by Monogram pictures. Renaldo is playing a more romantic lead role and singing. It doesn't have the panache of the later TV series with the great Leo Carrillo (Pancho). The Lone Ranger was a classic, but the Cisco Kid was cool. "Hey, Cisco! Hey Pancho!"
Clan of the Cave Bear box

CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR
1986
Daryl Hannah

Hannah plays a cave girl who gets treated differently by the tribe because of her blonde hair and her non-neanderthal looks. Yes, it does sound a little like "One Million Years BC." This cave-movie, based on the book by Jean Arel, is played for a more "realistic" "Quest for Fire" sense.

Nuke-em high box

CLASS OF NUKE'EM HIGH
1986
Troma Pictures Classic

The insane people at New York's Troma Pictures cannot let a year go by without one of these movies getting out of their sack. Entertaining low-budget horror-comedy with acting on a high school level, yet somehow, they make a living on this stuff. Go figure.

Olivia Pascal
Corinne Wahl
Carole Davis
(US-Germany)
Funny, sexy movie about a company PR guy (Lemmon) who is hired to save the desperate Beaver Bra Company from disaster.
CROCODILE DUNDEE BOX

CROCODILE DUNDEE
1986
Paul Hogan
Linda Kozlowski

Paul Hogan went from "shrimp on the barbee" salesman for the Australian tourist bureau to world superstar with this movie about a cocky outback Aussie man who comes to New York and discovers a whole different kind of outback.

dark star box

DARK STAR

Science fiction comedy about a team of planet destroyers whose lives are disintegrating aboard a spaceship that is also disintegrating.

day time ended box

DAY TIME ENDED

dementia 13 box

DEMENTIA 13
1963
William Campbell
Luana Anders

Little known B-movie from the Roger Corman factory and a very tight first effort by director Francis Ford Coppola. Good old fashioned horror mystery.

DRAW BOX

DRAW!
1981
Kirk Dougles
James Coburn
Alexandra Bastedo

Two aging burned-out gun fighters -- who happen to know each other -- are forced by an entire town into a face off. Coburn plays the hopeless alcoholic, Douglas is just looking to quietly retire, and Brit babe Alexandra Bastedo is the intelligent love interest. Comedy Western with more talk than gunplay.

earth girls box

EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY
1989
Geena Davis
Julie Brown
Jeff Goldblum
Jim Carrey

Geena Davis is a hair stylist who falls for furry alien Goldblum in this whacked comedy that also stars the Homecoming Queen Julie Brown, the spaztic pre-superstar Jim Carrey, and a cameo by billboard queen Angelyne.
easy money box

EASY MONEY
1983
Rodney Dangerfield
Joe Pesci

The amazing comic Rodney Dangerfield became a star the second time around with this feature film.

educating rita box

EDUCATING RITA
1983
Michael Caine
Julie Walters

Two academy award winners in one film. Walters plays the working class hairdresser who strives to be more. Caine plays the cynical professor who has lost his way. Excellent movie.
elvira box

ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK
1988
Cassandra Peterson
Edie McClurg

The stunning and shapely Elvira (Peterson), horror host forever, stars in this very funny tale. The death of her great Aunt brings her to the uptight puritanical town of Falwell. Naturally, Elvira's anarchic hedonism and, er... buoyant uplift... disrupts the town completely. No, I haven't seen the sequel.

everything about sex box

EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX
1972
Woody Allen

Some people consider this sex farce Woody Allen's peak, career-wise. It is funny, but Allen has done better work. "Bananas" and "Sleeper" come to mind -- and my favorite guilty pleasure, "What's up, Tiger Lily?"
experience preferred box

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED BUT NOT ESSENTIAL
1983
Elizabeth Edmunds

Understated Brit comedy about a young schoolgirl who takes a summer job at a resort hotel.
fast lane fever box
